Bath selection - overview of materials, sizes and shapes

When choosing a bath, you need to study the models on the market and understand how this or that model meets your expectations. In a variety of materials and forms it is easy to get lost - stone and cast iron, acrylic and quarian, steel and even wooden baths can be oval, round, angular and even polygonal! Exotic models are even made of copper and glass.

In addition, the bath can stand in the center of the room, adjoin the wall, be embedded in a niche, and also vary in size - can accommodate one or two people. Additionally, the bath bowl can be equipped with a water and air massage system, as well as lighting, acoustics and other modern systems.

Types of baths on the material

The properties of the materials from which the baths are made are different, and these differences affect the performance properties of the products.

  • Types of baths: cast iron material

Baths of this material are very durable and long serve. The inner surface is covered with enamel - it is easy and simple to take care of, but this coating has drawbacks: it is quite fragile, the object that has fallen to the bottom can damage the enamel, cracks will appear, and dirt will accumulate in it.

As a rule, such baths are made rectangular due to the qualities of cast iron: due to the low ductility of a complex-shaped product, it is rather difficult to obtain. When choosing a bath, take into account the weight of the structure, it reaches 100 kg, so you need to install it on a solid foundation. The baths of good quality is quite a big price.

  • Types of baths: material steel

The main advantage of steel baths is the budget price. In addition, they are lighter, the weight, as a rule, does not exceed 30 kg, which allows them to be installed on the second floor in wooden houses. The bowl of the steel bath is also enameled. The main drawbacks are considerable noisiness during water intake, as well as its rapid cooling. They can be eliminated by applying a heater on the outside of the bowl, for example, foam.

When choosing a bath, pay attention to the thickness of the steel from which it is made. If it is less than 3 mm - the bath may be deformed. Note that the steel bath must be grounded to prevent electrical damage.

  • Types of baths: acrylic material

This modern material keeps heat well, makes no noise when typing water, and can last for a long time. The acrylic surface does not tarnish from time to time, the bath will retain an attractive appearance for a long time. In plastic, add special substances that prevent the development of bacteria.

The forms of such baths can be any, since acrylic is extremely plastic. This makes it easy to make any holes in it and equip baths with hydromassage, water aeration systems, and various lighting. When choosing a bath, it is important to pay attention to the thickness of the plastic, 5-6 mm is enough for the product to serve for a long time. The surface must shine and be perfectly smooth.

When choosing a bath, pay attention to the presence of stains and matte areas, this may indicate that the bath is made of ABS plastic with the addition of acrylic, in which case it will quickly turn yellow and lose appearance. Quality acrylic bath can not be cheap.

Important: Sometimes you can find plastic tubs for sale, on the surface of which acrylic is sprayed. Such a bath will quickly require replacement.

  • Types of Baths: Quartile Material

Quarille is a new modern material obtained from acrylic when quartz is added to it. Its mechanical stability is much higher than that of acrylic, and in the manufacture of baths it is not necessary to reinforce them additionally. Baths are made of quarry casting method. By weight, they occupy an intermediate position between acrylic and cast iron.

  • Types of baths: exotic materials

In addition to the above, for the manufacture of baths used materials such as copper, natural stone and all types of artificial, wood and even glass. When choosing a bath, keep in mind the price of such products is very high, they are made by hand, and, as a rule, on order.

Choose bath size

The determining factor when choosing a bath is its size, which depends on the size of the bathroom. Standard baths have a length of 150 to 180 cm with a width of 70 to 100 cm. At the same time, baths with the same geometric dimensions can differ in bowl size - it depends on the presence of armrests, rounding of corners, and slope of the sides.

When choosing a bath, be guided by the growth and completeness of family members, taking into account that the most correct position of a person in water is one in which the chest is above the water and the legs are completely hidden under it. At the same time on both sides of the body to the bath should be free space of about 5 cm.

The choice of bath form

As mentioned above, the shape of the baths can be very diverse, and there are the usual rectangular, and angular, and oval, and round, and complex shaped baths. When choosing a bath, it is necessary to select a suitable model depending on the place where it is supposed to be put.

Near the wall is usually placed classic options with a rectangular bowl.

Baths in the form of semicircles or corner ones are chosen in the case when they want to have a large bowl with small room sizes.

Oval baths, as a rule, are placed in the center of the bathroom or at some distance from the wall; they have beautiful legs and are not only a functional item, but also a decoration of the interior.

Baths in the form of a square or a circle, as well as baths of unusual complex shapes, are usually located in the center of the room. They are chosen in the case when the area of the bathroom is large, and with a non-standard design.

Embedded models

A special place among the huge selection of baths is occupied by embedded models. As a rule, they are of considerable size and require large rooms. Baths of this type are more like small pools, they are buried on the floor, or in a specially mounted plasterboard construction.

Bath for two

Twin baths are not necessarily very large, for example, corner twin baths can be installed in standard rooms. There are also baths for two square and round shape.

Twin baths can have “double” equipment: two head restraints, four handrails, two hydromassage systems. The color lights and the music system built into such a bath will help create an atmosphere of romantic relaxation. When choosing a bath, pay attention to additional features, among which you can highlight water ozonization, as well as air and water massage.
